Q. What services are available in Ucluelet?

A. There are a wide range of accommodations including campgrounds, hotels, cabins and B&B's. There are a variety of restaurants and several pubs, offering take-out to fine dining fare. There are grocery, liquor, and convenience stores, as well as banks and pharmacies.

Q. What's the weather like in Ucluelet?

A. During the summer when most people are visiting temperatures range from 10-25°C (50-80°F). It is often sunny, with calm to moderate winds. Like any coastal area, fog is common in the mornings on warmer days. Bring a jacket for the mornings and late evenings. Spring has a mix of sun and rain, with Ucluelet being one of the calmest areas on the West Coast in May and June. Fall has a lot of summer like days, but with no fog or busy crowds.

Q. What are the water conditions like where we fish?

A. The best fishing (especially for Halibut) is 5 to 25 miles offshore. The Salmon are often in the same area as the Halibut. This far offshore, the water conditions are usually calm with swells. On the rough-weather days we take a shorter ride into Barkley Sound or the Broken Island Group. These areas are almost always protected from the wind and sea conditions.

Q. What type of fish can I expect to catch?

A. This area has some of the best and most consistent Salmon and Halibut fishing on the West Coast. We mainly target Halibut and Salmon. All five species of pacific Salmon are in the area at certain times of year. Chinook and coho are the most sought-after. We also catch sockeye, pinks, and chum when they're around. Of course, there's always a chance of hooking other tasty species of bottom fish like lingcod, blackcod, snapper, rockfish, or even an octopus. When the weather cooperates we often catch limits of Salmon and Halibut.

Q. Are reservations necessary to book a charter?

A. Reservations are highly recommended, especially during the fishing season in May, June, July, August, and September. Many guests book their dates 6 months to 1 year in advance to ensure they get their preferred Salmon and/or Halibut fishing dates.
